Born in the realm of the eternal drip, beckoning volcanoes rise and the moon come closer, C. Bartlett Doe can't help but aim high. Picking up the instrument he once derided, this Renaissance man found his voice. Always one to learn, Doe started with the classics, studying with Portland classical guitarist Jeffrey Ashton before progressing on to study with Mark Hanson, nationally-recognized finger-stylist and Grammy Award-winning performer. For five years Doe imbibed what he could from his teacher until the time came for him to move out, so to speak. Ever since he's been seeking through words and music all that goes unseen in daily life, the reverses and traverses of existence. Without the song, life would be a wasteland of hardened rationality and humorless routine. As it is, music is what makes the day bearable. That and the moment of intuition, of realization that meaning accrues only by virtue of will, that none of this HAS to be, but that it IS is what makes it worthwhile. Have I fallen off the subject?
